About Rock-It

It all started from a love of surfing, the ocean, the outdoors, and in spreading the joy of it all with others.

A surf camp fleet. Rock-It has supplied surf schools since the early years.

Surfing is a true lifetime gift. It keeps you in shape, puts you in touch with nature, and teaches you lessons in overcoming adversity and the power of self. Sharing those experiences with others builds strong bonds between friends and family.

In 2015, Nick Naylor was looking to buy a beginner surfboard for his first child. Nick junior was six, growing up in the seaside town of Sandbridge, Virginia Beach, where the surf culture is strong but the waves are usually meagre, so soft tops are often the best choice.

The soft board market at the time was split between two extremes: cheap box-store foam boards that surfed terribly and fell apart, and a newer breed of soft tops that held up and surfed well but were priced close to hand-made fibreglass boards. There was room for a middle ground. A board that surfed well, lasted longer, wasn’t embarrassing to be seen on, and was good value.

Rock-It was born that year as a side hustle. Factories were visited, designs were drawn, and the first website was built from a small trailer at an RV park across from the pier while the family rented their house out for the summer. Three young children living at the beach made a full-time R&D team.

It started with a focus on kids and has expanded over time to beginners of all shapes, sizes and ages. As experienced surfers started keeping a soft top in the quiver, the range grew to include performance options and features like fin boxes and reinforced decks.

From the founder’s story on the Rock-It journal.

Australia, 2026

Now in Australia

As of 2026, Rock-It boards are available across Australia, shipped from Ocean Grove on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula. Our Australian distributor also covers New Zealand and Indonesia.

Most boards ship direct for a flat fee depending on size. The 9′ and 10′ models are too big for Australia Post and most standard couriers, so freight for those is quoted after you order. Warehouse pick-up in Ocean Grove is welcome.

Giving back

Two per cent, at least.

Rock-It Surf pledges 2% of net profits to better causes, and in practice we’ve usually done a lot better than that. Got a contest to sponsor, a cause to donate to, or someone in need? Get in touch.

We originally specified recycled materials in our boards, but quality control and supplier compliance became a problem over time. So we refocused on more environmentally friendly manufacturing methods and materials, and on making the most durable boards we can so they don’t become part of the throwaway culture.
